De-Growth Conference

Friday, Jun 3, 2011, 6:00pm - Saturday, Jun 4, 2011, 6:00pm

De-Growth Conference 2011: If continuous growth on a finite planet is impossible, then what are the options?

Harbour Centre, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver
Friday, June 3, 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Saturday, June 4, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM

The CCPA's Seth Klein will be speaking at this conference, along with Climate Justice Project collaborator Bill Rees and other international and local leaders. The problems associated with growth-based economies include declining quality of life and environmental degradation, and there is growing interest in de-growth concepts as an alternative. Workshop topics include:

  • Can new green technologies or business practices enable us to expand the economy and decrease our ecological footprint at the same time?
  • De-growth by example: connecting to speakers from around the world as well as different parts of BC to discuss de- growth
  • The growing divide between rich and poor in the world and what it means for social justice and ecological sustainability

Welcome to the BC Office

Seth Klein

“When the CCPA British Columbia Office opened in 1997, we dove into BC’s public policy debates head first, backed by the solid research and expertise CCPA is known for. We’ve been at it ever since, challenging the message that there is no alternative, and showing that a more just, caring and sustainable society is possible.”
