Location: Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (Ottawa, ON)
Status: Full-time permanent position
Salary Range: $85,000 – $TBD, plus a generous benefits package

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA), Canada’s leading progressive policy research institute, is looking for a Director of Development in its National Office (Ottawa, ON.). The Director of Development is a full-time management position reporting to the Executive Director and overseeing four direct reports. We are a progressive employer offering comprehensive salary packages with extended health benefits. 

Principal Duties

  • Develop, monitor and implement fundraising strategy for the organization, including but not limited to annual giving (mail, monthly and online), institutional/major giving, planned giving, grants and stewardship.

  • Develop, monitor and administer departmental budget(s), work plans and reporting

  • Lead and support development staff in the delivery of fundraising programs, donor stewardship, donor transactions, and data management.

  • Support staff capacity and development (with advice, skills training, and other professional development opportunities).

  • Manage consultants, vendors and staff on executing fundraising programs, appeals, and related initiatives.

  • Provide guidance and advice with regard to donor database and data management (assessing present and future requirements).

  • Participate in regular management meetings and provide strategic advice as needed.

  • Contribute to organization’s overall strategy and plans.

  • Promote a donor-centred approach to development activities, and foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization.

  • Play an active role in all aspects of organizational planning and administration.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the CCPA’s mission and values.

  • Relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in development.

  • CFRE designation is an asset.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience supervising employees and budget management.

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking, organizational development and change management.

  • Energetic team player with strong leadership and relationship-building skills.

  • Self-directed, effective time management and organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Well developed conflict resolution and negotiating abilities.

  • Familiarity with DonorPerfect and/or Raiser’s Edge, and a high degree of technical aptitude.

  • Ability to work in both official languages (English and French) is an asset.
