In 2014, we held the first Atlantic student essay contest for undergraduate and graduate students writing on any subject matter related to public policy in Atlantic Canada. Papers needed to take a critical approach and consider progressive policies that advance social and economic justice, and/or environmental sustainability, in any discipline, or in multi-disciplinary studies. We were very pleased with the quality and number of entrants to the essay contest. Many thanks to all who entered!
We also want to thank Alexandra Dobrowolsky and Neal Livingston, who along with CCPA-NS Director, Christine Saulnier, served as adjudicators for the award. You can read the award winning essays below:
- The Voices of Downtown Dartmouth: A study of urban decay and renewal [2], by Meaghan E. Dalton (Undergraduate Winner)
- Solidarity or Charity?: Comparing Approaches to Food Provision for New Strategies in Halifax [3], by Althea Redfield (Undergraduate Honourable Mention)
- Poverty and Health in Canada: A poverty intervention tool for Nova Scotia [4], by Kady Myers (Graduate Winner)
The 2015 Atlantic Student Essay Contest is still accepting entries. The contest is open to all students enrolled in post-secondary institutes in Atlantic Canada, and essays can address any subject matter related to public policy in Atlantic Canada.
Find out more details and submit your essay here [5]. Please note that the deadline has been extended to October 1, 2015.
