Suspend approvals of new wood pellet mills in BC

Whole trees, not just wood waste, are being used to make wood pellets in BC mills, new research by the CCPA, BC Office shows.

Large volumes of trees have been logged by the industry since 2010 and new photos show wood pellet mill yards overflowing with logs. Pellets are usually made from ‘residuals’ like wood waste from sawmills, and environmental groups and a union have joined our call for the provincial government to suspend approvals of new wood pellet mills pending an independent review into the industry’s escalating logging activities. Read the research.
