A lot of AI discourse masks the fact that it is the result of a series of policy choices. Despite the government evoking Margaret Thatcher’s infamous “there is no alternative,” we do have a choice. And we should be serious about what that choice is.
A guide to standing up to book bans and beyond, and how to protect and strengthen public education in Canada
The Economic Security Project ran from 2004 to 2009, and examined the dramatic shift in the delivery and governance of public services in British Columbia since 2001. The project set out to analyze how this policy shift affected the economic security of vulnerable populations, and to explore what policy solutions would better meet their needs. The project, led by the CCPA and Simon Fraser University, partnered with 20 academics and about 25 community groups.
In February 2025, the CCPA closed its BC Office. However, most of the people formerly associated with the BC Office are continuing their work at a new organization—BC Policy Solutions. An amicable separation agreement has been reached between the two organizations, and we encourage people to continue to support the good work of both the CCPA and BC Policy Solutions. The CCPA continues to ensure the voices and concerns of British Columbians are included in its national independent research, analysis and expertise and BC Policy Solutions continues to support the CCPA’s important research work on issues affecting all Canadians.
