Manitoba is facing unprecedented crises, including a trade war with the U.S., climate-induced emergencies, affordability issues, and the toxic drug crisis. Additionally, the long-term impacts of public service cuts from previous governments are becoming increasingly apparent, including in healthcare wait times, growing income inequality, action on truth and reconciliation, and the capacity of public services. Progress in rebuilding these essential services is hindered by a focus on tax cuts and achieving a balanced budget. A strategic, long-term approach is necessary.

Join us for this panel presentation on Manitoba’s finances and pressing priorities from local experts.

Presentation by Dr. Jesse Hajer, Assistant Professor of Economics and Labour Studies, University of Manitoba, CCPA Manitoba research associate, and co-editor of “Public Service in Tough Times,” followed by expert response panel and discussion.

Panelists:

Laura Cameron, Director, Climate Action Team, Manitoba

Kyle Ross, President, Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union

Noah Schulz, Provincial Director, Manitoba Health Coalition
