Cornerstone Compromised
On August 8th, 2011, the Nova Scotia government made several changes that affect access to special needs allowances under the income assistance system. In the summer of 2012, the CCPA-NS began an analysis of these changes, interviewing stakeholders and holding a community forum. This report looks at the major themes that emerged in those interviews, and also offers long- and short-term recommendations for the NS income assistance system that will help us to better meet the needs of Nova Scotians living in poverty and support their health and dignity.
Violence against women: the absence of data and a national strategy costs us all
A study released today, authored by CCPA research associate Kate McInturff, says that progress on ending violence against women in Canada is stalled by the absence of a coherent national policy and consistent information about the levels of that violence.
The Gap in the Gender Gap
This study finds that progress on ending violence against women in Canada is stalled by the absence of a coherent national policy and consistent information about the levels of that violence. The study estimates the combined cost of adult sexual assault and intimate partner violence in Canada, and also makes several recommendations on how to improve the situation.
