Winnipeg, Treaty One–A new report Tired of Waiting: Rectifying Manitoba’s Pay Gap published by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is being launched at a press conference 10 AM CST, April 27, Rm 103, Union Centre, 275 Broadway, Winnipeg, Man.
Women and racialized people were on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in the health and services sector. This research was done to understand how these workers can gain a stronger economic footing going forward. The report includes a statistical analysis of the pay gap in Manitoba between men and women, by race, occupation, industries, education, and age. The report includes a legislative review of federal and provincial legislation and includes recommendations to achieve substantive equality and eliminate the pay gap.
Tired of Waiting: Rectifying Manitoba’s Pay Gap is by Anna Evans-Boudreau, Oyindamola Alaka, Lorna Turnbull, Jesse Hajer, Natalie Dandenault and Kristine Barr. Anna Evans-Boudreau is a second-year law student at Robson Hall, University of Manitoba and is the Chair of Robson Hall’s Feminist Legal Forum. Oyindamola Alaka is a community organizer and advocate. Lorna A Turnbull has been working for gender equality, including income equality, all her professional life. She is a professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. Jesse Hajer is an Assistant Professor in Economics and Labour Studies at the University of Manitoba and a Research Associate with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives—Manitoba. Natalie Dandeneault is a graduate student in Economics at the University of Manitoba. Kristine Barr practices union-side labour law with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in the Manitoba regional office, frequently appearing before arbitrators and administrative tribunals.
